Call for expression of interest: Characterisation ERM-CA403 Trace elements in seawater
Dear colleagues,
Find below a call for expression of interest for a characterisation exercise for the certification of candidate reference material ERM-CA403 Trace elements in seawater, organized by IRMM (European Commission).
Please note that this call is NOT restricted to European participants. We are also providing a little more information regarding the samples:
“the seawater were acidified to pH <2 with ultrapure hydrochloric acid. After acidification, the sample was filtered through a Versaflow 0.8 / 0.45 μm filter capsule (PALL, WVR, Belgium)”
Please contact Raquel Sanchez-Romero (Raquel.SANCHEZ-ROMERO@ec.europa.eu) for any further information.
Best regards,

Subject: Call for expression of interest: Characterisation ERM-CA403 Trace elements in seawater
Dear Sir/Madam,
At the end of the year, IRMM will organise a characterisation exercise for the certification of candidate reference material ERM-CA403 Trace elements in seawater and I am in the process of sending out invitations to tender to be able to contract a sufficient number of laboratories for the study. However, before sending you an invitation to tender, I would like to check with you first if you are interested in participating.
The study comprises the determination of total As, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Mo, Pb, Ni, Se and Zn in seawater. The table below gives a rough indication of the concentration range in which the elements should be present:
Cd, Co, Pb, and Se —-> 0.01-0.10 µg/L
Cr, Fe, Ni, and Zn ——> 0.1-0.5 µg/L
As, Cu, Mn, and Mo —> 1-10 µg/L
To give you an idea of the timing: the dispatch of the samples is estimated to occur around at the beginning of November 2014, delivery of the results to IRMM will then be expected at the end of December 2014.
Moreover, I would like to ask you for more information to organise the characterisation study. In the characterisation study we are interested to use the maximum number of different techniques. So I would like to ask you to fill the attached document. Please, fill up for the analytes that you could determine. Moreover, if you could use different techniques for some analytes, indicate it in the table please.
On the other side, I would like to ask you if you know some other laboratories that could be interested to be involved in the study.
I am available for questions if you require more information before making a decision.
Kind regards,
Dr. RAQUEL SANCHEZ-ROMERO
