About the role

University College London (UCL) – Department of Earth Sciences is offering a full-time permanent lectureship in Climate Science, with particular interest in polar and cryosphere research. They are looking for someone whose work complements our existing strengths in polar remote sensing and modelling, and who can take advantage of our state-of-the-art cold rooms and ice facilities. The successful candidate will engage with climate related activities across the Department and UCL, including CIREN, and develop collaborations with external organisations. They will establish and lead an internationally recognised research programme that advances understanding of the climate system and contributes to addressing one of UCL’s Grand Challenges – The Climate Crisis.

The successful candidate will be expected to pursue research of international quality that enhances, complements and/or extends current activity in the Department of Earth Sciences, and to provide academic leadership in the development of their subject area. It is also expected that the post-holder will contribute to all aspects of the academic life of the Department, and UCL.

About you

The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge and expertise in polar climate related research, publishing new knowledge in leading international research journals, and teaching undergraduate and taught postgraduate courses.

The award of a PhD, or equivalent qualification, in an appropriate discipline (must have been awarded by the time of submission of the application for the posts) is essential, as is a Personal Research Plan that supports and enhances the Department’s research.
