Lecturer in Marine Sciences at the University of Edinburgh, UK

The School of GeoSciences at the University of Edinburgh is seeking to appoint a dynamic marine scientist to expand and complement existing research in ocean and climate related sciences. We wish to attract researchers with expertise in areas such as marine remote sensing, autonomous vehicles, moored instrumental arrays and/or ship-based observations, sampling with relevant and related data analysis and modelling skills with the view to understanding large-scale marine processes, cycles and fluxes, and/or the cumulative impacts of climate and environmental change along our coastlines and oceans that have societal relevance. The post holder will complement a strong team of multidisciplinary scientists with School expertise already spanning marine ecology and conservation, marine biogeochemistry, remote sensing, and palaeoceanography. Post holders will benefit from in house state-of-the-art oceanographic and remote sensing analytical and computing facilities and infrastructure, and links to our world-leading Bayes Centre data-science and artificial intelligence collaborative hub.

The successful candidate is expected to design and lead a portfolio of world class research in their respective field, contribute to knowledge exchange, participate in enhancing the collegial environment and inclusive ethos fostered by the School. The post holder is expected to teach, design, and lead a portfolio of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and demonstrate leadership through academic supervision and related administrative duties. Many opportunities exist for wider disciplinary linkages with other research horizons in the School, e.g. human and physical geography, earth sciences, as well as the broader University, such as in biology, maths, engineering, law and the humanities.
