A year of the GEOTRACES Early Career Scientist Committee
Established in summer 2024, the GEOTRACES Early Career Scientist (ECS) Committee brings together 15 members from 10 countries, highlighting the international scope and collaborative nature of this initiative. Co-chaired by Laramie Jensen (University of Washington, USA) and Jianghui Du (University of Beijing, China), the committee has been meeting approximately every two months since August 2024.
Over the past year, ECS members have actively contributed to key GEOTRACES activities, including representation in the Scientific Steering Committee and the Standards and Intercalibration Committee meetings. They are also involved in organizing, teaching, and leading practical sessions at the 2025 GEOTRACES Summer School and served on the planning committee for the GEOTRACES Synthesis Preparation Workshop.
To foster communication and collaboration across the global early career network, the committee has launched a dedicated ECS listserv and hosted an ECS mixer at the 2025 Goldschmidt Conference.
Applications for the next cohort of ECS members are currently under review, with plans to welcome at least five new members while maintaining continuity with previous members.
Looking ahead, the ECS Committee aims to finalise and publish its Terms of Reference and expand its role in GEOTRACES subcommittee representation. These efforts reflect the committee’s growing influence in shaping the future of GEOTRACES.
