VIII International Symposium On Marine Sciences In Las Palmas De Gran Canaria, Spain

The ISMS (International Symposium of Marine Science) is the most important appointment for marine sciences in our country. ISMS is organized biannually by the six Spanish universities offering the Bachelor of Marine Sciences (Alicante, Barcelona, Cádiz, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Católica de Valencia and Vigo universities). It is also a unique meeting environment that will bring together several symposia and congresses of diverse nature (DINO12, EOF, SIQUIMAR, IS-AR-FIS, MSP, BAMAR).

The first edition of ISMS took place in 2007 with the goal of bringing together the full range of topics in the field of marine sciences. The ISMS is now a well-established meeting venue for researchers and experts, as well as an excellent opportunity for students and post-graduates to present and gain exposure about the results and findings of their bachelor’s and master’s projects.

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Spain) welcomed, for the first time, the studies of marine sciences in Spain in 1982. From July 6th to 8th of 2022, we want to celebrate our 40th anniversary with the VIII International Symposium on Marine Sciences (ISMS 2022).

Moreover, it will be part of the actions of the Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development  (2021-2030). ISMS 2022 will involve a world-class group of keynote speakers at plenary sessions and actively seeks for extensive international participation. Transdisciplinary sessions will be given priority, together with the presence of Citizen Science, in order to strengthen the connections between different disciplines and between science and society.
