Position Title: Post-Doctoral Researcher

Position Description: The Post-Doctoral Researcher will be mentored by Dr. Brandy Toner (University of Minnesota) and will measure the physical and chemical properties of marine colloids and particles. The Post-Doc will have the following responsibilities:
- Conduct original research on the interactions of iron and organic matter in the marine photic zone using synchrotron X-ray spectromicroscopy, advanced electron microscopy, and complementary analytical approaches (50%);
- Participate in 4-5 oceanographic expeditions from Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences (BATS) (15%);
- Participate in synchrotron instrument time (5%);
- Prepare research findings for peer review publication (25%);
- Communicate regularly with supervisors, mentors, and project collaborators (5%).
Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in chemistry, oceanography, aqueous geochemistry, or a related discipline;
- At least one prior experience in shipboard oceanographic field work or related experience;
- Prior experience with analytical chemistry;
- Demonstrated scientific publication record;
- Demonstrated effective communication skills in a variety of settings (daily workplace interactions, project planning and outcomes, collaborative interactions, written reports, and presentations);
- Ability to work with and maintain professional relationships with collaborators and co-workers.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience with trace metal clean sample collection and analytical procedures;
- Prior experience with synchrotron X-ray microscopy or electron microscopy techniques;
Salary & Duration: Base annual salary in year 1 is $61,800. Appointment is 1 year full-time and renewable for 2nd and 3rd years upon satisfactory progress.
