Implementation of GEOTRACES is guided by a single international Science Plan, which calls for essential Enabling Activities to be completed in advance of the global field program. Intercalibration together with the establishment of a Data Management Strategy, including a Data Policy and a Data Center, constitute the principal enabling activities. Preparation for the global program has been supported by a series of workshops, some focusing on research priorities for Ocean Basins or specific geographic regions, and some bringing together modeling with observations well in advance of the program.
