SECOND ANNOUNCEMENT (posted 18 June 2010)

for the GEOTRACES Mediterranean Planning Workshop

(See below for First Announcement sent in March 2010)

The Workshop will take place between the 4th and the 6th of October 2010 at Hôtel Westminster, Nice, France. More information about the programme, the venue, funding, and more may be found in the attached Second Announcement flyer, as well as on the workshop web-site.

We would like to invite:

1. Presentations for the special plenary session on “The ideal Mediterranean GEOTRACES section” (Day 2);
2. Talks for the various breakout sessions (Days 2-3);
3. Advocacy talks (Day 1);
4. General comments and suggestions on the planned workshop.

You may register for the meeting, and submit your talk abstract by filling out the registration form .

The DEADLINE for registration and abstract submission is 31 JULY 2010.

Please disseminate this announcement to all colleagues who may be interested.

We look forward to your input, and we hope to see you in October.

FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT

Since the inception of the international GEOTRACES Programme, a strong interest has developed in carrying out GEOTRACES-related activities in the Mediterranean Sea, due to the proximity and importance of the ocean-land-atmosphere domains, as well as the variety and intensity of exchanges between these domains. This interest has already led to several discussions and deliberations (see www.cybaes.org/gtmed for more information). The GEOTRACES Mediterranean Planning Workshop aims to focus these discussions and to lead to an action plan for future GEOTRACES activities in the Mediterranean.

We would like to invite:

• Initial expressions of interest in participating in this workshop,
• Comments on the programme structure,
• Suggestions for potential topics for talks and break-out sessions, as well as for key note
  speakers, and
• Suggestions about additional sources of funding.

DAY 1	AM	The Mediterranean Sea and GEOTRACES: key processes and sites, existing relevant programmes and activities (plenary session)
	PM	Tracers in the Mediterranean: key parameters, advocacy talks (plenary session)
DAY 2	AM	Break-out sessions: Discussion on topics, organization
	PM	Break-out sessions meetings and plenary discussion
DAY 3	AM	Break-out sessions meetings and report drafting
	PM	Synthesis and planning for future action (plenary discussion)
